It was 1942 and World War II was in progress. At the time, Argentina would supply the world through its ports, which would not stop their restless activities for a minute. There, amongst hundreds of ships, London Supply took its first steps as a maritime supplier at the hand of its founder, Mr. José Taratuty.

The start of London Supply, an Argentine purely company, can be fixed on February 4, 1942, when its founder, Mr. José Taratuty, manages the issuance of a decree authorizing the provision of overseas ships with goods of national origin exempt from taxes that impose taxes. This maritime supply activity lasts until today covering the 19 most important ports of Argentina, with products manufactured by Massalin Particulares and Nobleza Piccardo, for which it is the exclusive representative.
Mr. José Taratuty had from those years the representation of the products manufactured by Philip Morris International, for their importation and distribution in the Argentine Republic. Since import at the country level was prohibited, it marketed these products in the South of Parallel 42, an area benefiting from a special regime.
Careful that Argentina was hit by the scourge of smuggling, the Government decided to open the importation of cigarettes, so the company London Supply SA, which represents the country to Philip Morris International for the import and distribution in the domestic market is of all products manufactured by the tobacco. Under the high incidence in the product of internal taxes, London Supply became the fifth largest contributor of this tax in the country. The rules of the time granted for payment of excise tax credit of 90 days, which commercial business is annexed to the financial business.
Smuggled goods seized were auctioned by Customs, so London Supply using the commercial structure of mass distribution, participated in the auction of customs tobacco category covering a market niche at country level.
Buenos Aires port becomes the basis of Chinese and Korean tuna fishing, so we expanded maritime proveeduría to supply these vessels in all areas demanding (food, beverages and spare parts).
Law 19640 is promulged, an so the Special Customs Area of ??Tierra del Fuego is created, establising a full exemption from income tax for the activity on the island, as well exemption from taxes on the import of goods of any origin . Our activity so far, included the exclusive wholesale distribution of products manufactured by Massalin Particulares, to it all products of Philip Morris and most brands of Scotch whiskeys, as well as other products that were obtained in character annexed exclusive representatives.
London Supply obtains the concession of the "boutiques of the 8 passenger ships Fleet Fluvial Argentina, linking Buenos Aires with Montevideo and Colonia in ROU and Asuncion, Paraguay, for sale onboard passengers and crew of Argentine goods exempt internal Revenue. Keep in mind that in the beginning of this concession, we had to sell goods of Argentine origin because Uruguay was not allowed to supply ships with goods from any source.
London Supply starts a new activity in Tierra del Fuego with the opening of a shop for the retail sale of different items of foreign origin with the benefit of exemption from taxes imposed import, this was the beginning of our duty free activiy.
In 1986 the concession for the exploitation of boutiques on the ship City of Mar del Plata, one of the ships known as the "Vapor Race" linking a 12-hour night journey Buenos Aires with Montevideo is obtained. On board this ship, London Supply installed the first "Duty Free Shop" in the region, under the concept that today this type of activity is known. While Uruguayan law at that time did not allow the supply to foreign goods, this ship for two trips a year to the port of Asuncion, at which we we supplied all the goods that were sold in duty free shops. Subsequently, the Uruguayan legislation authorized the supply of ships with goods from any source.
In 1987, River Plate activity at 4 boats belonging extends to Ferry Lines and Navigation Atlantis companies (Buenos Aires, Atlantic, Nicolas Mihanovich and City of Parana) creating the Duty Free Shops Division River silver, which adds in 1989 to 4 overcraft companies Alimar and Belt, these six boats linking the port of Buenos Aires with the ports of Colonia and Montevideo in RO of Uruguay and Asuncion in Paraguay. In 1992, London Supply entered the airport business by winning the international tender, carried out by the government of the R. O. del Uruguay, whose purpose was the construction, administration and operation of the Airport of Punta del Este (R.O.U.). Together with a group of local companies, it is formed by the Consorcio Aeropuertos Internacionales (CAISA), a company that invests more than US $ 40 million in the construction of a new terminal building, airstrip, platform parking aircraft, control tower, among others works. Also, and under the company called Fosforecencia SA, operates the duty free shop of the airport. The new airport and Duty Free Shop were awarded numerous international awards, including the "Frontier Award" for the best Duty Free airport in the world, delivered in Cannes, France in 1998. This airport was the first to be awarded to a private, in the world.
Contemporaneously, the tender for the construction and operation of stores arrivals and departures of Airport Duty Free Shop Cologne win, R.O.U. This activity lasted for 2 years until international flights stopped to that destination.
Originated in a private initiative of the company, in 1995, London Supply wins the tender for the construction, management and operation of Ushuaia City Airport, in Tierra del Fuego, inaugurated in 1997. This airport became the first concessioned airport in Argentina. The particularity of this airport was that the construction of Terminal local materials, laminated wood and stone ball for the purpose of creating symbiosis with the nature of the site were used.
In 1997, and through a new private initiative, Supply London wins the bid in the Santa Cruz province to build and manage El Calafate airport, which was inaugurated in 2000. Today, the company continues operating in El Calafate, Ushuaia and Trelew airports.
Misiones Province government by delegation of the enforcement authority, Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Nation, made a call auctioning the concession of Puerto Iguazu free zone. Our group participates and is awarded the concession for 30 years + the option for 10 more years + another option for 2 years, engaging in the offer to an investment of u$s 2.500.000.- and the ending of the works, investment amounted to u$s 12.500.000.- under which knew see this concession potential. Today after several years of its inception, we can say that we were not mistaken in our assessment. In 2002, we opened the free wholesale and retail area. Under the success of this concession, after 10 years of operation we had to expand the retail sector doubled, creating new deposits and backrooms under the peak days received more than 10,000 visitors per day. Our duty free shop had 5 Frontier Awards in the "Best Duty Free Shop World Border". This business unit generates 930 direct jobs and the total investment in construction amounted to u$s 35M.
The granting of this airport Terminal, originates after finishing the management that we met for a period of 3 years, at which there was a call for tender by the Municipality of the city of Trelew, in its capacity as Grantor us awards the concession for the construction and administration of this terminal for a period of 25 years. While the start of the concession, we make the total remodeling of Terminal equipping its facilities telescopic bridge for boarding passengers, as well as various works that allow local and international passengers transit on the grounds. This city is the gateway to whale watching and attractiveness area and Punta Tombo penguin colony.
This tender was called by the operation of the terminal of Puerto Pañuelo National Administration of National Parks for construction, management and main lake port of Argentina of all the ships that passengers plying Nahuel Huapi lake and Puerto Blest with foreign tourists and Argentines. The new terminal was opened in 2007.
This year, together with other companies, a building is acquired in the port area of ??Buenos Aires in order to recycle it, thus the real estate division is born. A posteriori, 7 ha are acquired. In the city of Ushuaia with the purpose of carrying out a real estate development.
Misiones is a forest province with a large number of sawmills throughout its territory. The processing of the wood produces a by-product that is sawdust, which in several areas was burned for destruction, producing a great environmental impact. Conscious of this inconvenience, our group concludes in the convenience of installing an industrial plant for the production of pellets, from the raw material that is the sawdust, improving the environment and creating renewable energy. Thus, in 2011, the company Maderas de la Mesopotamia S.A., a company that acquires world-class equipment for the production of pellets and builds a plant with a capacity of 4 tons / hour. All the production has the export as its only destination.
In 1996 and associated with the Costa, Parenazon and Arena Groups, London Supply won the tender for the construction and administration of the free zones of Rio Gallegos and Caleta Olivia, for a term of 35 years. After construction began, due to a dispute between the Nation and the Province of Santa Cruz, the National Government repeals the benefit of the retail sale, which makes the concession fall. In 2013 the National Government reinstates the benefits of both free zones and calls for a tender to concession its construction and administration. Thus, in 2015, almost 20 years after the first call for tenders, London Supply is again awarded and product of this begins works in those areas, estimating the completion of the works by the end of 2016.
